Finnish fashion and portrait photographer Matias Jalmari has spent over a decade building a career defined by strong visual storytelling, a refined eye for character, and the ability to move fluidly between editorial work, brand campaigns, and music artist visuals.

I want my pictures to reflect life and the beauty that lives both around us and inside us.

Nikon has always meant reliability, precision, and results you can count on.

Matias Jalmari

Matias Jalmari's approach to photography is rooted in a deep appreciation for mood, nostalgia, and the kind of imagery that feels like it belongs to a specific moment in time. Drawn to the visual language of 90s and early 2000s film, music, and art, he pursues a quality in his work that feels warm, storylike, and deeply human, whether he is shooting a clean portrait or a cinematic editorial frame. For him, the image continues long after the shutter is pressed, with careful editing bringing color, texture, and emotional weight to the final photograph. His relationship with Nikon stretches back further than most might expect. His first Nikon was a 2011 pocket camera that he still shoots with today, having used it on lookbook projects for brands including Zara and Free People. He now shoots primarily with the Nikon Z8, supported by lenses including the Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.2 and Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.2, and credits the system with expanding both his creative range and his confidence on set. He has also found Nikon Imaging Cloud and its Recipes genuinely useful for streamlining his workflow, and the Z8's video capabilities have allowed him to move more freely between photo and film work. Joining the Nikon Creator program feels, to him, like a natural continuation of a relationship that started long before his professional career took shape.
